Empty Gelatin Capsules (EGC)
Gelatin; mainly sourced from cow bone and skin. Its function is to be used for solid drugs to cover bad flavor; disintegrates & releases drugs in the stomach. Its advantages include low cost, time-tested process, good stability & high production efficiency; presently the mainstream capsule product.
HPMC – Capsules
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC); sourced from fiber of pines or cotton. It is used for covering bad flavor, holding solid drugs, disintegrates and releases drugs in the stomach.
DPI – HPMC
The capsule has good inner surface properties and avoids content residue. It is used for dry powder inhalers; archives good drug delivery effects with inhalation devices. It proves advantageous as it has a low fragment rate, good safety & reliability. It is also suitable for dry powder inhalation preparation such as Tiotropium bromide powder for inhalation.
Liquid – Capsules
At present, this is the most ideal container for liquid or semisolid preparation. Its advantages include extremely high transparency, excellent heat-resistance, humidity-resistance, sealing performance and tenacity: easy to be taken, disintegrating more than 70% of soft capsule block & good for digestion.
P – Caps (Pullulan Empty Capsules)
Pullulan; sourced from sugarcane and free from genetic modification. It dissolves in the stomach to release drugs, as well as being suitable for filling oxygen sensitive drugs & diabetes drugs due to non-absorbable properties. Its advantages are pure plant sources, good stability, free of animal disease risk, suitable for vegetarians and oxygen permeability is lower than that of empty gelatin capsules.
